Madeleine Bordallo

Picture
During Operation New Life, First Lady Madeleine Bordallo helped her husband, Governor Ricardo J. Bordallo, to oversee the Government of Guam's assistance of the Vietnamese refugees.  She mobilized all the women’s clubs in Guam to gather clothes and other donations for the refugees.  Based on this experience, she officially formed the Guam Council of Women’s Clubs in 1982.  She also helped to oversee the care and adoption of Vietnamese orphans and other sick children, as well as hosted Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's visit to Guam during Operation New Life.  Later, she served as the first female Lieutenant Governor of Guam (1995-2003) and the first female Delegate to the US House of Representatives from Guam (2003-2019).
